Our Move

Well that was hectic.

Our last day of work was March 21st, we celebrated Jason's 31st birthday March 22nd, then our days were dedicated to packing until departure to San Diego on March 29th.

The madness began March 27th. We hadn't completely comprehended what we were getting into until then, the point where our UPACK would be picked up the next day to take all of our belongings to San Diego and we still had silverware in the kitchen drawers. It's not that we were procrastinating the move, we just didn't realize how much stuff we had! As we were stuffing things into boxes and throwing/giving away any thing we could, Jason pointed out this was going to be the easiest move of our marriage because it was just us two, we were only taking our bedroom furniture, and we were having someone else do the driving. Him saying that made me realize how hard moving really is and made me dread any move to come.

UPACK was such a fantastic service through ABF freight. It's the same concept as the more popular PODS service but MUCH cheaper. It was wonderfully simple. Once they dropped it off we had 3 days to fill it and then it showed up to our new place 2 days after we got there and we had another 3 days to unload. They call you an hour prior to dropping it off and you just call them to pick it up within 3 days.

Then came the time to actually leave the apartment! But first, we met up with my brother Ken for donuts at the Provo Bakery to say goodbye and then to Smiths to get caffeine free Mountain Dew for Jason's sister. When we got to Las Vegas, about halfway to San Diego, we went to Jason's sister, Kimberlee's, house. We picked up lunch, hung out with the niece and nephew, took a MUCH needed nap, and then were back on our way.

When we finally got to the house we were surprised by treats from my parents and my mom's amazing pasta salad. It was such a relief to finally be there. But little did we know the hardest part of the move was about to begin. The house was still filled with my grandmother's day to day belongings, like 75 ball point pens, sticky notes, and spices from the 80's. I spent the next few days getting as much done as I could before all of our things showed up. We emptied a majority of the kitchen and moved out the furniture we didn't need or have any sentimental value towards. We painted Jason's office and bought him a desk.

But of course, before I could really get everything out our stuff showed up!

The next two weeks then ensued of organizing, scrubbing the insides of drawers, and tripping over boxes. We're just painting our offices and the bathroom, adding our touches here and there, and then we'll be ready to give the tour!

It amazes me how much we have done and how much more there is left to do. I'm excited to have so many projects around the house!...but it's probably time to get a job now. Oh how I'd love to be a stay-at-home-mom minus the children.
